  1. very impressive list :)
while cochin has got a number of malls, the only thing we lack here in trivandrum was the shopping experience in malls. waiting for these big projects to start functioning here.

  2. Sheesh, so many of them. Do we have enough people in Trivandrum to fill all of these ? Id love to see a few more threaters here.

  3. I have the same doubt as Kenney, do we have enough people, anyways buying power is there.

  4. hey, just got back from my vacation to see this post. :) Great job as always Scorp! :)

I find this list way better than the ones in Cochin. Trivandrum malls I have been to are owned by the govt. itself and they cannot be really called malls actually!

  5. vinod

hey, what are the new apartment projects coming up?

  6. BABU

Could you please list out the residencial high rises and huge townships going to reach Trivandrum soon. Heera already started one in Killippalam, Thampannor and one in Sreekariam.

  7. Sabari.S

SUPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!IT seems that finally we are on th rite track.. :)

  8. Lets keep our fingers crossed to let it done

  9. of watever lil i knw abt tvm and its ppl, i believe malls wud have a tuff time surviving here..malls unlike a bigbazaar or a spencers need more than just footfalls to float..it needs ppl with large amts of disposable incomes..that to ma info wud be highly numbered in a tier 3 city like tvpm..
furthermore a shopping mall never greatly transforms a city..its jus a money minting prop on a city landscape..for a city like tvpm it wud do nothing more than add a glossy finish of superficial urbanness…
so frankly i donn see ny real value these many malls can bring into our livelihoods!! millions of mall area in a bureaucratic city like tvm will be a highly skewed idea..and even these hi promising developers may pullout at some juncture realising the ground realities!!
a city is never known by the “n” no. of malls dotting it, its known by the institutions it possess..so lets not get overwhelmed by the big Ms!!!

“A few months down the line Trivandrumites will open their eyes…..” I would say, that should read “A few YEARS down the line…..” I have been in Tvm since the last 2 years and I have been listening about most of these malls since day 1 !!!

  11. rihan

@Rakesh – If you really don’t know the reason i would say you are not living in this world or you don’t have brain.:)

  12. P.V.Thomas

    Great developments in Trivandrum!
Though we are behind schedule,God’s Own Country
    welcomes the fast approaching developments!!
Let us have a chance to live in the Modern World with modern facilities!!!
State Govt. may look into introducing to establish
    1.parking Area
    2.better roads
    3.unitrupted water & power supply @24×7
    4.neat and clean Public Toilets
LET OTHER STATES LEARN A LESSON FROM US!

  13. Rakesh

@rihan – appreciate your optimism…and the ‘cliche’d blame-the-recession-for-everything approach. Last year the delay was due to recession, this year it might be sand scarcity, next year it might be something else altogether…for all you ‘brainy’ people ‘living in this world’, I hope and wish I am proved wrong – lets meet again after a few months (12?) and see how many malls have you visited in Tvm???
NB: it is usually the etiquette in such forums to refrain from getting personal…thanks.

Guysss……anybdy got any updates on the topic..?? :-) ;-) ;-)

good to see that some ‘real’ malls will be coming to tvm in about 2 years time…it will takea minimum of 2 years for any one other than nikunjam to see the light of the day… please stop this comparison with kochi. kochi has a fully operational (92% occupancy) oberon mall with a multiplex, gold souk which will be fully operational by oct 2010 along with the multiplex and the huge 2 million sq ft lulu mall by oct 2011…

  16. kochi is not a metropolitian city don’t say foolishness.Trivandrum and kochi ia a second tier metro cities

  17. Artech group will commence its project near pattoor next month, itz a shopping mall cum six screen Multiplex wth a seven level parking system! Mumbai based firm is designing this building

Today the Muthoot Multiplex decision got finalised today.
The Old Kripa Theatre is going down…..(total land area around 53cents)

Muthoot Mutiplex is a six screen multiplex ! Each screen will have a capacity of 200 seats!

  18. Coming to back to Trivandrum, got first hand info about Kripa Theatre. It is being changed to ADLABS multiplex. It is about 45000 sft, 4 screens, 250 seater each. There will be a food court also. The construction time is one year and six more months for fit out.

There will be two class of tickets, with the Club class priced at Rs.500. (Inlcusive of meal). Normal class would be Rs. 150.

Satyam Cinemas are tying up with CONDOR Fortuna Mall at Pattom.

Muthoot group is going to launch a retail cum Serviced Apartment project at Bypass, near Agricultural Whole sale market. There would be 40000 sft for retail (Good enough for a Big Bazaar) and 100 apartments. Design is being done by CPG group, Singapore.

  19. anoop

adlabs in trivandrum ? sounds doubtful….
satyam is coming to forum in kochi in about 2/3 years time…not sure about this condor fortuna that you are saying…that might take another 5 years !
plus pvr has tied up with the lulu mall fora nine screen miltiplex…to be operational by august 2011….
    and these are facts…

  20. Yes many multiplexes are coming more over few of the existing theatres in the city are converting into multiplex(atleast 4)
You can see many more multiplexes in the bypass and in the city too very soon
    keep watching
Yes. Cinemax has listed trivandrum in their website for MoU ,to establish a multiplex. Big cinemas,INOX are alos i the piupeline.

  21. anoop

mr renjith, however much as i wish for trivandrum to have malls and multiplexes, the fact remains that most of what you say seems to be , just out of thin air… please dont generalise in a forum where the veracity of the information is suspect.
if kochi has one multiplex and two more confirmed ones ( please see fun cinemas website and the website of lulu) , these are facts…
why do u always have to compare…..tvm has many things which kochi doesnt…. the way you purport facts and reports about things that arent there in trivandrum , makes me wonder what your motive could be ? nothing untoward, i hope…
tvm has to catch up with kochi as far as malls and multiplexes go.. period.. accept it……instead of giving some unconfirmed, unverified , unsubstantiated ,hazy generalistions…

Every city has its strong, weak and unique points. Historically Kochi had more businesses and more hence faster so called development ( Multiplexes, Malls, etc etc) because there is more disposable income. Thiruvananthapuram has always been a middle class city, clean and green with good educational and cultural institutions. Till early 90s Thiruvananthapruam was the cleanest and greenest city in India. In the Late 90s reckless development ( I would not call it development) started and Thiruvananthapuram started to loose its soul. Cities around the world are trying to conserve their uniqueness and that is one thing none of cities in India are doing. Soon all cities in India will look the same …concrete jungles with no soul. There will be more malls than people visiting them. It will end up an economic and social debacle. With All these new malls, planning permission etc is non existent , They bribe and get permission to build where they want to . There is no socio-economic or environmental studies before allowing these big projects.

Instead let us concentrate on real development. Cleaner air, clean public toilets, better public transport , better health care , less stress. Let us make the unique events better like the international film festival, the Tourism week, the flower show, Swati thirunal festival and many many more
Let Kochi Remain kochi and Thiruvananthapuram remain thiruvananthapuram

  23. Vidhya

i don’t get it whenever something is mentioned about TVM why should it be compared to cochin??

  24. faizal

Welcome move, let Tvm also move up the ladder, but matching infrastructure shd also be provided

  25. Jdaniel

Who does not like to be in Singapore and in Dubai or in London, thats what these malls will do , a one point stop to do multi shopping, great food of all types, watch movies, parking space and also a great work out for all age group of people, walking exercise in a full air condition atomosphere. You can see anyone wearing the traditional lungi around the mall its the next generations time to catch up with the advanced world, Dont worry money will be available for shopping,if not atleast go for a snack, it is not necessary to purchase always just enjoy the spirit of shopping and taking your loved ones out.
