Trivandrum and the Media

Trivandrum has been a media hub from the days of the yore. The kings of the days were patrons of media. The revolution in media began with the establishment of the Government pressĀ  way back in the year 1789. The city sees teh circulation of more than 30 leading dailies both in Malayalam and English. The noted among them are Hindu, The Indian Express, Kerala Kaumudi and others. Other print publications include weekly, bimonthlies and other magazines covering almost all genres. The Informations and Public Relations Department is responsible for the release of government notifications and other works. The city also boasts of a slew of FM stations catering to wide range of age groups. The major news groups include Mathrubhumi, Malayalam Manorama, Metro Manorama. The leading English Dailies include The Hindu and the Indian Express. Asianet, Kairali and Surya T.V has their headquarters in Trivandrum dishing out programs for all sections of the people. Other channels include Jai Hind TV and Amritha Channel all unique in their own way. On 28 Jan 2008 Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM started its operation this was followed by Mathrubhumi’s launch of Club FM 94.3 the next day.Big 92.7 FM SFM 93.5 folowed as on 29 Jan 2008.
