A photo exhibition on Birds, organized by Greens is being exhibited at the Museum Auditorium. Themed, ‘The Birds of Kerala‘ is based on the book, ‘Keralathile Pakshikal’ by Prof. K K Neelakantan(pen name: Induchoodan) from June 5th-9th, 2010 from 10 am-6:30pm. The book published in 1958 is divided into 123 chapters, which gives us descriptive study with illustrations of 261 birds found in Kerala.
Neelakantan was born in 1923 in Palakkad. His father was a vet at Mysore Government Service and had to change to 5 different schools. He started his career in early 1944 as a tutor in the American College, Madurai. He retired in 1978 from Trivandrum University College as the Head of Department for English. He continued to study birds until his death at the age of 69.
Ever since the demise of Prof .K.K.Neelakantan in 1992, the Warblers and Waders, an agency of birdwatchers and nature lovers, working for the cause of conservation; who has been observing June 14th as ‘Induchudan Commemoration Day‘. The book, ‘Keralathile Pakshikal’ has reached its 52nd anniversary this year.
