One fine sunday morning we have this crazy idea of exploring all the statues in Trivandrum and we went for a ride in the city with our GPS enabled mobile phones. We didnt know that we had this much statues in Trivandrum.
When we speak about statues in trivandrum the first one that may come to our mind is the Mermaid at Shankumukham by Kanai Kunjiraman.

There are a bunch of other beautiful sculptures by Kanai in Veli also. But our attempt was to study about the Statues of great men in our city. We found out almost 20 such statues in Trivandrum including the memorial of KCS Mani infront of the Swati thirunal Music College. They are plotted in a map with photos and description and is added here. We are planning a documentary video on these statues and you can watch them one by one in Trivandrum buzz very soon. Please feel free to add if we missed some statues here.

Absolutely a wonderful idea. If each of these statues could speak a bit of history, that would be great. Someone with a passion for political science could envision follow up on each with the situation surrounding the appearance of each of these statues…

on February 13th, 2010What wonderful work Sujith! A post to bookmark!
I think you’ve covered almost all major statues of trivandrum other than the ones mentioned in the comments section. I think you still have an option to put up Part II of this post if you chose to dig in a bit more. For eg since you’ve included the Mermaid, you could well go for the Hippocrates Statue in front of Medical College OP and also the Mother-baby statue at SAT Circle.
Appreciate the effort. :applause:
