Located near the Padmanabha Swamy temple is the Meshan Mani. It was installed during the reign of Swathi Thirunalk in 1833. The unique feature of it is that the dial consists of the face of a man and two goats. At every hour the the man opens his mouth and the goat would hit the face of the man from both the sides. The clock is crafted by Kulathooran in Mahogany wood.

The Kuthira Malika Museum is situated near to the Padmanbhaswamy temple.  The malika was built by Swathi Thirunal Blarama Varam the king of Travancore at that time. The whole building is built in ancient Kerala style of architecture. The walls are adorned with unique wood carvings. The museum houses precious collections of the royal jewelery . The museum also houses paintings which belonged to the royal family.

itis not “meshan” mani .it is the “Methan” mani….

It was built to commemorate the victory of Travancore army in stopping the invasion of Tipu Sultan at the battle of Varapuzha River . :) ….Travancore was victorious against Tipu when the Zamorins of Calicut were defeated by him.

    Oh my goodness…
    Pl do not distort history
    regarding Methan Mani.
It was installed in 1837 (during the period of Maharaja Swati Tirunal) by John Caldectte. He was the first director of the Observatory established in the same year. It was the first Observatory in Asia.
Methan Mnai is also called Mesham (not meshan) mani because of the two goats. Mesham in Malayalam means goat.

War with Tipu took place in the period of Karthika Tirunal Bala Rama Varma popularly known as Dharmaraja who ruled Travancore between 1758-1798.

Time frame is more important while writing history.
Pl check and cross check before you write

“The walls are adorned with unique wood carvings. The museum houses precious collections of the royal jewelery”
It is wrong. It is not the walls but the ceilings which are adorned with exquisite wood carvings. Each chamber has different type of ceiling.
The museum does not houses precious jewelry..
