on March 29th, 2010Ohhh this one is a bit difficult.
on March 30th, 2010This is Kilimanoor Palace, the birth place of Raja Ravi Varma.

on March 30th, 2010this is kilimanoor palace. this place was in news recently as someone stole the paintings by raja ravi varma stored here…
on March 31st, 2010Sure… this is Kilimanoor Palace….The royal house at Kilimanoor has a history stretching back more than 300 years, although the oldest buildings are from a much earlier period. However, it was in 1753 that the palace was built in its present form..
on April 2nd, 2010Yes, indeed, it is part of the Kilimanoor palace complex. The building you see above is the studio which Raja Ravi Varma planned but died before completion. The main building is on the right of this palace.
Even when Ravi Varma was working in Baroda he used to visit Kilimanoor at least twice a year during the temple festivals. For the locals, it was more than a festival as he used to regale them with gifts, anecdotes and paintings.
Besides Ravi Varma, many other prodigies also were born or resided in these hallowed complex. Raja Raja Varma Cherunni Koyil Thampuran a contemporary of Maharaja Swathi thirurnal and author of Ravan Vijyam aattakatha was also born here. Many of the brothers and descendants of Ravi varma have also made their marks in various fields in their own right.
on April 2nd, 2010The extended family still lives in the complex which includes several buildings and temples and shrines. Since they still have traditional rituals and family festivals, the access to public is restricted to certain areas and timings.
I hope the families living here will be able to maintain the structure. We often neglect heritage buildings and their surroundings, but we do indulge in idle boast about our heritage and culture. Take for instance the old buildings by the road from Eenchackal to East Fort. It’s a saddening sight.
