Shashi Tharoor, Union Minister of State for External Affairs said that Kerala needs to “get its politics right”. Most of the investors still have the speck of suspicion that is creeping through their minds. Tharoor was here to inaugurate a seminar on ‘Kerala, A Right Place to Invest,’ organised by the Non-Resident Indians’ Welfare Foundation. He had interactions with several potential investors abroad; on how do they look upon investing in Kerala. Apparently, he understood that bad reputations were self-perpetuating. An investor who had a bad experience in the past would discourage others also from getting into it.
Acording to Tharoor, the thing to do was to get the positive message across; the State government should be backing words with action as actions speak louder than words. He linked these remarks to the SmartCity project which is now clouded by qualms. He said, the State government should have ensured that it worked, once they had signed the memorandum. Dr. Tharoor also said, “The BMW people panicked and left seeing the State on a hartal the day they reached here for talks with the government. They set up their factory in Tamil Nadu instead.” Why should the State remain in the backwaters of development? Opportunities we get are being messed up by dirty politics. A young and passionate generation of entrepreneurs has now started coming forward. This will bring a promising future for the State if they are given chance rather than making them panic and discouraging them. If something has to work in this State, it should get its politics right as Tharoor said.
