The National Livestock Show and Food Festival 2010 reigned the vibrant hearts of the city over the last few days. It has concluded with much glitz and glamour which included a mind-blowing performance by Shobana and team, Mesmerizing moves by Neena Prasad, dazzling stage show by Soorya Krishnamorthy and a rocking performance by Best of Idea Star Singers. To add to the star studded glamour of the final day, one string veena performance by Kumari Vijayalakshmi also captured many hearts along with Kadhakali by Alapuzha Sandarsan Kathakali Vidyalayam and other folk dances from different parts of India such as Assam, Madhya Pradesh etc.
Shobhana Chandrakumar is a person familiar to each and every keralite across the globe, she has been in the limelight of movies as well as Bharanatyam for so many years that she was awarded with Padma Sri Award by the Govt of India. Nishagandhi auditorium blossoms to its max every year to the graceful moves of this enchanting dancer. This year also she was successful in doing the same with her mind capturing performance of bharathanayam and fusion with her team mates. The place was packed with audience who were so eagerly watching her mesmerizing dance moves.
Dr. Neena Prasad is a famous innovative Indian dancer who has been trained in a multiple artforms such as Mohiniyattam, Bharathanatyam, Kuchipudi & Kathakali. She is one of the top artists of Mohiniyattam in India today. She was awarded a PhD in dance from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata for her research on the various manifestations of laasya and tandava in South Indian classical dance. Nishagandhi auditorium is blessed to witness the rhythmic patterns, stylish approach and sheer grace of this enchantress. There was pin drop silence when the show began and spectators enjoyed every bit of it till the end.
Among all cultural programs the most appreciatable one that struck most of the audience was Vaikom Vijayalakshmi playing a Gayatri Veena. A gayatri veena is a one string veena and infact it came into being and got the name ‘gayatri veena‘ only because of this blessed artist. Vijayalakshmi is a born blind and spectators were completely astonished watching her playing gayatri veena.
On the end of fourth day a group of kadhakali artists from Sandharsan Kathakali Vidyalayam performed ‘Dhushasana Vadam’. It’s sad to realize the fact that we people are not encouraging our own traditional art forms like kadhakali, coz the gallery was nearly empty when the show started. Ofcourse there were a few enthusiast watching the show with keen interest. The highly classical kadhakali performance was very colourful with attractive make-up, elaborate costumes, detailed gestures and well-defined body movements presented in tune with the anchor playback music and complementary percussion.
Folk dances from different parts of india such as Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, etc.. where yet another eye-capturing cultural program. These dancers performed there ravishing performances every day of this 5day event at Kanakakunnu. A group of performers from Assam performed ‘Kushan’ dance, a folk art form popular in undivided Goalpara district of Western Assam. Their pretty colourful costumes and subtle dance movements in tune with their remarkable anchor playback music made them alluring for everyone’s eyes. Folk dancers from Madhya Pradesh also performed an appealing performance with vibrant coloured costumes and remarkable dance moves.
The final day celebrations of the mega event was marked with much more glitz and glamour by the manipulating charisma of Soorya Krishnamoorthy and the Best of Idea Star Singers. National Livestock Show came to its conclusion witnessing the dazzling stage performance ‘Sangamam‘ by Soorya Krishnamoorthy & team and the melodious & bashing rhythm of Idea Star Singers. Even in heavy rain the entire spectrum of spectators remained there at Nishagandhi autitorium till the end. The stage was full of fascinating performances with vibrant colours throughout the event Sangamam. The classy and rocking performances by Idea star singers extended up to 11.30 at night and people remained energetic in celebration mood till the National Anthem.
Even though many pointed out the faults in management skills of the organizers, it is the sea of people who made this event a great success.
