Edakkallu was once considered as one of the ideal locations for sunset viewing; but now the place is terribly hazardous for the tourists. The Rock-Garden will be marked using bio-fencing by planting Pandanus trees. Apart from using Pandanus, Euphorbia plants will also be planted for beautification. Furniture made out of stone will be made for seating arrangements. This work is estimated to finish within a time period of a year.

The stadium is coming up on 34 acres of land on Kerala University’s Kariavattom campus. Mumbai-based IL&FS Transportation Networks Limited won the bid for constructing the stadium at a cost of Rs 141 crore. The construction will begin in next December. The developer will design the stadium, build, operate and transfer it to the state government after completing the lease period of 15 years. The operator will have to ensure the stadium is maintained well even when it is used for non-sporting events. The developer should also give back 10% of the gross revenue to the state government collected from Games and other non-sporting events conducted in the stadium. It should also give back 30% of sponsorship (inside stadium) revenue to the government annually.

The new stadium, which will have a seating capacity of 50,000, and will come up after 24 months. The playing arena in the stadium will be constructed in line with FIFA regulations and ICC norms. It will have facilities to accommodate indoor sport facilities like basketball, volleyball, table tennis and handball. Olympic-size swimming pool with aquatic centre too will be constructed.

Keeping all the above mentioned issues in mind, the Ministry of External Affairs has decided to open 13 more offices across the state. Out of these 13 offices, three will be be opened in Trivandrum. The main idea is to help people get passports within three days police verification. The project implementation has been handed over to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) . After implementation, TCS will manage and maintain the system for the next six years. “World-class standard will be ensured at the PFCs. They will be air-conditioned with cafeteria and toilet facilities for customers. Once they are established, the applicants need not wait in long queues endlessly in front of passport offices,” a highly-placed source with the TCS said.

The Passport Facilitation Centers (PFC) will have a reception and a back office where the current passport work will be carried out. The procedure is expected to take much less time and ease the public of many hassles. All, that the  people need to do is,  to go to the site and select the nearest PFC. Fix an appointment. The help-desk will assist them through the procedures, the applicant submits the application and documents. After the verification of the documents , they will be forwarded to the SP of Police for police verification.

Also, the Govt. plans to introduce biometric finger print scanning and digital imaging at these facilities. So no more haggling around with brokers, or waiting in the queue to submit the forms. Passport is just a few clicks and one stop at the passport office away.
