The luxury train “Golden Chariot” extended its itinerary on the 8th of March to take the travellers through Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala and it was christened the “Southern Splendour”.  The aim of this extension was to serve the upmarket segment of travellers who want to cover the whole of South India seamlessly.

The extended itinerary of seven nights and eight days includes a mix of temples and heritage sites in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, including the world famous Auroville; verdant backwaters of Kerala including a tour to the Jewish town, a sunset cruise and other attractions in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.

The first trip of the Golden Chariot’s Southern Splendour started on March 15th and today noon, the train is expected to reach Trivandrum. We have great pride in welcoming the train to the city and Kerala Tourism is planning an event to welcome the Train to Gods Own Country.

updates: The Luxury train Golden Chariot reached trivandrum at 2pm. The passangers were welcomed at the Railway station. There was a press conference too..

The passengers are then taken for a city tour followed by a visit to Kovalam. They will be staying at the Taj Green Cove Resort today.

The train will proceed to Alapuzha tomorrow morning where passengers will be taken on a houseboat cruise on the backwaters of Kumarakom. The final stopover is Kochi which will include a tour of the Jewish Town, the Dutch Palace, the Chinese fishing nets followed by a sunset cuise and a Kathakali performance.

Golden Chariot is Soutth India’s only Luxury Train. Golden chariot is Ranked among the top seven super-luxury trains of the world by vanity fair.

Each Coach of the “The Golden Chariot – Pride of The South” has been named after the dynasties that ruled Karnataka – Kadamba, Hoysala, Rastrakota, Ganga, Chalukya, Bhahamani, Adhilshahi, Sangama, Shathavashna, Yudukula and Vijayanagar.

The train has got two restaurants, a lounge bar, conference coach, Gym and a massaging centre. Every cabin is equipped with Wi-Fi, LCD television, DVD with 6 satellite channels, wardrobe, vanity/writing desk and private bathroom with luxurious amenities and accessories.

  2. Disagree, we should have more trains like these…..i think the fare is a bit too steep for the common man….and besides, we already have too much BARs in Kerala…having it in a train is potentially asking for trouble! :)
